Novel-food
A novel food (NF, Novel Food) is defined as that which has not been consumed in a significant way by people in the EU before May 15, 1997. Thus, new products/ingredients can be: recently developed innovative foods and ingredients, foods produced using new technologies and production processes, as well as foods that are traditionally consumed or have been consumed outside the EU.
In order to be consumed in the EU, they must be evaluated by the EFSA and subsequently authorized by the European Commission. Alimentómica has a panel of experts specializing in the preparation of official reports requesting the approval of new foods.
